Facebook for business

August 28th, 2007

So I have been playing with facebook, mainly the marketplace to see how I can get an international client based for my freelance stuff. I want to get into the American market a bit more, as they seem to always lead the way in the web. I know South Africans are not slow to catch on with whats happening in the world today, but they do have the disadvantage of not have the cash flow these Americans do. I find even a lot of Euro sites don’t seem to put in as much effort as the American ones do but that also got to do with cash flow I think.Back to my point, I know the market place is a great little tool for selling and buying stuff in your networks but that’s just it, it is limited to your network, you can browse the other networks and see what’s going on even contact the people but try and add something to a network you are not a member of and you’ve got another story.I wanted to advertise myself on the Silicon Valley Network so that I could maybe get some work. I noticed they where very big on people living in the valley when looking at other job offers, so not sure if it would be te right place to do it. none the less though, every thing I did to get an ad in a network just sent me back to the South African network.I will attempt to try again soon but for now looks like I’m stuck in SA.

Full time Styling

Well, as I start my Journey into the deep unknown of working freelance full time, I am finding my kitchen very cold. Think the worst thing to happen is my mail reaching its limit on the first day and I didn’t notice till the following morning when I didn’t get my Slashdot mails.

I’ve been spending some time chatting to people that I know in hopes of getting some nice projects. So far just a few small things and then some big projects are been talked about but nothing set into stone.

I still have a list of things to do, with regards to starting up my own company but that will all happen in its time, at the moment I am focused on getting work for now.

I am now looking into Joomla and Wordpress for simple projects, I am planning to do a service where I install the systems for a flat rate with some plug-ins that I think are needed. There will also be some theme customising for the install.
