Day of WordPress and theChive…

Well I’ve been working on wordpress a far amount recently. Its always kinda been there but I’ve only really got into updating themes for clients. Never really anything advanced. WordPress has always just been a easy CMS for quick sites.

Anyway, today I’ve been chilling with Roy who has been running through a few things he likes to do when it comes to using WordPress as a CMS… Through all this stuff I have a greater understanding of wordpress I think and I’m another step closer to making those ever coming wp-plugins I have in mind.

I keep forgetting, I got a image in theChive.com. I have been meaning to do a follow up as some of the people found the cats but I need a female with nice b***s to do it. Hopefully I get that sorted soon.

An update on the boycotting facebook thing, the first week was a bit hard not to check it out but after that I have almost forgotten about it. One of the things I have noticed is that I have no idea what people are doing now. All events seem to be running off of facebook so I have no idea what to do this weekend…

Taking a break..

So since Friday 25th I’ve stopped using Facebook. I have a few reason for doing this which are still not clear to me but I do think it was a good idea.

One of the first reason is that its filled with crap. On Friday I had about 8 notification that were just junk and then 3 spam messages and another friend request from some strange person. This is what triggered me to stop using it. I spent a bunch of time really just doing nothing and that is starting to bother me.

I have a number of projects on my mind which I have started but never get a chance to really get into. Facebook took up a lot of my time and I thought that if I stopped using it I might have extra time to work on these projects. Which so far is true. I have now completed a few things that where waiting for me.

My final reason is that I wanted to see what Facebook really offers its users that is important. I’ve been trying to figure this out for a while but have had no success but since I have stopped using it I have come up with a few things that I miss and would love to still have.

Anyway, now that I have some free time I will be updating this site again. I’m in the process of creating a new theme, something that I can integrate my photography images into a bit better. Hopefully I get it right this time. If you wanna see some of the stuff I’ve done so far check out my Deviantart profile. I will be adding more as I get them done. I have a ton of images that need process so as I’m done I will add them. My new theme idea I will integrate the images into it so you don’t have to go to multiple site to see what I am doing.

Thats all for now.

Joined at the edge

Well yes my thoughts on user names and passwords on the internet, can we not join them all, I mean I cant remember that many login details. I mean I know there is OpenID and there great idea of only having one login set but its not working. For that to work you need the big players to use it. E.G. Yahoo, google, facebook, myspace.. etc

I mean what are the chances of that happening. is there no one out there with some sort of idea that will change the world when it comes to internet logins.

I mean next the first world countries will start using hardware on the computers to login to systems and where will that leave the rest of us? Already there are limits if you are based in a first world country and as tech stuff improves and changes we are always behind. I heard of this thing today that can turn your average window into a speaker. Thats cool, but if you look at the stat of the average window in SA it wouldn’t work.

My favorite joke of recent from the Mike man(Barman at ROAR):
Q: What did South Africa have before candles?
A: Electricity

At what point does one decide to move to a first world country and leave there loved home to enjoy the benefits of the first?

Facebook for business, Good or Bad Idea

So I’m always thinking of was to make some cash on the net and using the online tools to communicate with people out there. Over the weekend I came across a new contacts tool called Plaxo. Now this site is still in beta phase but from using it, its got all the business features that facebook does not. I mean, you can import your contacts from LinkedIn and you have a Business, Friends and Family Profile. So I mean you can hide all those picks from your parents and Business partners and also give out different email addresses to each one.

The best part is that you can save all your contact details to your machine. This is a feature I dont think Facebook will ever use. Think about it, you spend hours working on getting people into your group or Page and then one day its gone. What you gonna do? Is that really a thing you want left up to chance?

wishlist

So I have this wish list page on my site, not sure how many people view it but I like it up there. It seems to work, So far most of the stuff I added I got so I have to update it every now and again with new stuff. Its a good idea I think.

My reason for this post is that I am trying to think of what services I can offer, I want to put it on my wish list so that I can get some sort of stable monthly income. I have tried advertising web hosting on facebook but all I got was people asking about sites and saying they would need more space and bandwidth.

Why people go asking for more when I was advertising a basic package. I mean basic means basic. Its good enof for a blog company website or family web site, but these people then go and say they need more and want a website.

Anyway, my thoughts on the monthly thing is getting to me, I have to think of something interesting that people will want, I mean I’ve done all these viral marketing email campaigns and simple newsletters but they take up too much time and are not a monthly thing.

Oh well, I’ll find the answer soon.

Blog About Nothing… and Facebook

This is a post about nothing, yes you read correctly. I am now adding complete junk to this site. If you are woundering why then keep reading. Well firstly, English was not my greatest subject in school and I am now faced with this issue of not being able to write a decent Blog post. I think of all sorts of cool topics I could write about and all, but when I sit down to get them in, my mind goes blank on how to start.

So I am now just going to start adding random junk to this site till I think my writing skills improve. Once I have done that then I can start writing about all the interesting things I think up.I think they are interesting, yes. A topic that has been on my mind and alot of others is Facebook.com, yes yes you might be getting board of that topic by now but I have just started freelancing full time and have been going through facebook a bit to find out how I could make some money on it. Of course there is the obviuse solution to create an application andd then get as many people to use it, but my idea was a bit more simple.

Firstly, the marketplace is a great way to sell yourself and or your skills. I thought this was great till I tried to see my soul to the international market. This got to be a bit tricky. I also am finding it hard to keep all my calendar and contacts in one place and it occured to me if you had your calendars and contacts all on facebook, and access to your messages via a pop account, thats all you would need to run things more smoothly.  More great features they could add is the ablilty to have is a friends category, where depending on the friends group they are in they would see only what you want them to see.

For example, if your trying to get work from fellow facebooker’s, but at the same time added some sort of druggy application to your profile, it would be great if yo could say that people in this group cannot see this app or all your applications. This would also be great so you can add those drunken photos of you and not have this shown on your business contacts feed. This is just a bit of what I’ve been thinking and there is many more to come. As I said in the beginning of this blog I am realy just tring my writing skillls for a bit first. On that topic another reason I posted this was to find out how many people would read a post that gives very little information and really not worth reading. Please leave a comment below so I can see the number off people who spent the time reading this. Thanks

Facebook for business

So I have been playing with facebook, mainly the marketplace to see how I can get an international client based for my freelance stuff. I want to get into the American market a bit more, as they seem to always lead the way in the web. I know South Africans are not slow to catch on with whats happening in the world today, but they do have the disadvantage of not have the cash flow these Americans do. I find even a lot of Euro sites don’t seem to put in as much effort as the American ones do but that also got to do with cash flow I think.Back to my point, I know the market place is a great little tool for selling and buying stuff in your networks but that’s just it, it is limited to your network, you can browse the other networks and see what’s going on even contact the people but try and add something to a network you are not a member of and you’ve got another story.I wanted to advertise myself on the Silicon Valley Network so that I could maybe get some work. I noticed they where very big on people living in the valley when looking at other job offers, so not sure if it would be te right place to do it. none the less though, every thing I did to get an ad in a network just sent me back to the South African network.I will attempt to try again soon but for now looks like I’m stuck in SA.
