Updating site design

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Hey,

So if you ever visit my site you will see that the design has been changing bit by bit. I’m in the progress of updating the design but my way. Which mean as much done with code rather than images and hacks.

If the site looks a mess, that means I have got to your browser yet. I’m focusing on the ones I have easy access to at the moment which is Safari, Chrome and Firefox, all on Mac. Firefox on mac is not 100% either, the rounded corners look horrible.

My Plan is that once I have complete the design site, with the way I’m doing it. I will then start working on the other browsers.

I will let everyone know once done and maybe even write a post about all the tricks.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Investing in people

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Every wanted someone to invest in you as a person? I have, think about it. You have start ups that get investors to keep them going till they start making money. Would that not be cool to have in your life? Some pays you to do what ever your are good at till you figure out how to make a bucket load of cash.

Sounds good hey, I’ve seen it happen with some guys who’s parents pay for everything till they start making money. It worked for them and most of them have made it really good now. True they are hard workers and not all of them have really done very well, the lazier of the lot are still living of mommy & daddy.

Any way, would love to know if this type of thing happen between complete strangers, if you know of something let me know.

Google gOS – Marriage over Twitter

Friday, January 9th, 2009

So its been awhile since I posted anything. had a small break and spent all my time working around my house. not really a break but I didn’t get near a computer for the whole week, which is different for me.

Anyway, so there are two things that top my mind today. First I see Google has released a operating system with all there app attached to it. The screen-shot look really cool and the amount of memory needed to run the OS is only 256 MB which is nothing compared to the average machine today. I’m a little worried about the usefulness of there OS without a internet connection as something that uses so little ram would be great for this country but if a 24/7 connection is needed then it might be a waste of time. I will have to wait and see though. don’t have a copy yet and not sure if I will be able to get one too soon.

On a happy note, two unknown people to me go engaged over twitter…
Still not sure how I feel about this, the whole thing is a virtual event so far, they are not in the same city at the moment so everything is happening over the net.

Well what ever happens I hope the two of them have a great life together and don’t spend too much of it in a virtual space.

Stop looking at me like that, I’m gonna get it done

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Yes yes, its been awhile since I first spoke about converting my site to cakePHP and yes I still have not done that, I have started on the blog system but I am very fussy about the design and that’s going to take me awhile.

Busy formatting my external drive, its only 10GB but its going to take 50 minute’s because I am making sure there is nothing left on the drive, there have been a bunch of strange files appearing on it giving me issues so now I’m making sure they are gone.

Fun in the sun its Friday.(Not going to find me in the sun btw.)

where are all the cape town php devs?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

So like, I’m in the need of some php dev people and apart from the massive amount of Indians willing to move here it is becoming very difficult to find some developers. The funny thing is if you every meet a guy who is a dev, he tries to get you to join his team and that is what I do as well. Its a funny circle of nothingness.

oh well one day I will have the full team as needed.

happy Thursday! anyone going to lades night at Gandalf’s?

Paypals and eBay

Monday, May 5th, 2008

So was checking out Paypals and eBay stuff recently. Trying to keep up to date with all that stuff. Last I checked if you where based in South Africa you could not receive funds from Paypals but it looks like that has changed. Not sure when that was. Still need to verify that, if anyone really wants to know you could send me money alex AT openstyle DOT co DOT za. once done I can see if I can withdraw that and find out from there, I know I could send money to my account but I don’t feel like spending money at the moment on all the fees involved. In a few months I think I might try it out but not right now.

The main reason I am looking into the eBay stuff is too see how to set up a shop for South African sellers. The downfall of selling stuff was paypals but if they are sending payment to South Africa then that issues is no more.

Once I have done more research I will be offering a hosting package to cater for full set-up and hosting of everything needed to have your ebay shop on your own domain. What I am thinking is a simple re-direct to your eBay url if you type in your url and then a touch of space for email. I would suggest that a gmail account be set-up so your email doesn’t kill your web space.

Keep watching for further updates.

Joined at the edge

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Well yes my thoughts on user names and passwords on the internet, can we not join them all, I mean I cant remember that many login details. I mean I know there is OpenID and there great idea of only having one login set but its not working. For that to work you need the big players to use it. E.G. Yahoo, google, facebook, myspace.. etc

I mean what are the chances of that happening. is there no one out there with some sort of idea that will change the world when it comes to internet logins.

I mean next the first world countries will start using hardware on the computers to login to systems and where will that leave the rest of us? Already there are limits if you are based in a first world country and as tech stuff improves and changes we are always behind. I heard of this thing today that can turn your average window into a speaker. Thats cool, but if you look at the stat of the average window in SA it wouldn’t work.

My favorite joke of recent from the Mike man(Barman at ROAR):
Q: What did South Africa have before candles?
A: Electricity

At what point does one decide to move to a first world country and leave there loved home to enjoy the benefits of the first?

Freelance Contracts

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

So was just loking for freelancer contract type things and found this quote

I’ve found that a contract is only as good as the people signing it. If you don’t trust the person, maybe you should look for another client anyways…

From this article

I think thats the best thing I’ve read in awhile, considering the client I am having issue with at the moment. I wasn’t 100% sure about them when starting but now, they are on my black list.
