Java & Camera

July 31st, 2009 by Alex No comments »

So, I’ve been doing the whole php programming thing for about 5 years. I started off in a beginners job, I studied digital design then went and told a company I was more interested in programming than anything else and they gave me a job. Through this whole process I still don’t have anything saying I am a developer. So to get that sorted out I am doing a Java course. I like the language, you can do more than just web sites with it, so I plan to get good at it. I want to look into the mobile apps mainly as they seem to be big at the moment but not going to limit myself to that.

Slowly getting a few things sorted out, I have work out a way of getting a camera, which involves a lot of nice people and a site where you don’t have to buy a product all at once. I still haven’t found the right site but once I find it I will post up a link.

Been trying to take more photos with what I got but my cell does not produce good photos and the camera I got from my brother just seems to give issues. I will have to glue the damn thing to a rock to make sure it is still enough to take a picture that does not blur. I have looked into the setting to see if there is something I have missed but still not doing it for me.

Think for yourself

July 20th, 2009 by Alex No comments »

IE6 The reason the web is not going anywhere fast. If you are running wordpress I highly recommend you install this great plugin. Shockingly Big IE6 Warning
I know its not always the users falt that they are still on IE6. There are a number of companys who manage thousands of desktops each day which run IE6 and why bother changing something that works. But at some point we will need to change. The new developments in HTML5 are too great to not take advantage of them.

Looking at finally get some sort of programming certificut, you know that thing programmers have. I dont have any yet, just worked my way up. Going to check out a java course tomorrow.

In other thoughts, figured out a cool little app to write. Not going to say anything about it till I have done some research but I think it will be great for security on the net.

One thing at a time

July 7th, 2009 by Alex 1 comment »

Hmm, so its been awhile since I upgraded my site, loving the latest wordpress. Been meaning to upgrade but was afraid of losing everything and have to waste time fixing the site. That is not the case luckily. it went very well and I have no complaints about the upgrade process.

on other news I came up with a funny website which I am currently building. It will still be sometime before it goes live but think it might make a buck or two and I’m writing it in cake so Will not be heavy development time.

I am still working on getting a camera and start shooting. things are going slow with that idea though. There have been some issues in my life that will slow most of my plans down. I have already registered a new account on deviant art for uploading my images.

Google Friends connector

March 11th, 2009 by Alex No comments »

Follow up on the friends connector scripts.

I like the idea that google can handle my comments, how ever from using it the past little while there are a few things I need to make note of. When a new comment comes I do not get notified of it, I’m hoping this can be changed via the control panel of google, going to check it out just now. Second I selected the option to use ID’s and not pages so I can have more than one box on a page. As you can see from my home page that hasn’t worked out so great. Only one box is displayed at a time.

Other than those two things I am happy with it, so now its time to make it better.

Have a great Wednesday.

Appearance at interviews

March 6th, 2009 by Alex No comments »

So doing the whole job searching thing has got my parents talking about my look again, I think its there favourite topic. They speak about it every chance they get. Not sure why, if you compare me and my brother, he is the smarter looking one and should be better off, also he studied at UCT and got very far yet is earning nothing compared to me. One more thing to think about hey.

What I wanted to really know is that if someone came to an interview in a smart casual outfit would that be a bad thing? I mean I don’t own any shirts yet I got other clothes that are very smart. The type of thing I would got to work in sometimes.

How important is this to you, a fake person who is selling themselves to you or a passionate person who does not hide the truth about themselves.

I would love to know what other people think on this subject.

Freelance month….

March 5th, 2009 by Alex No comments »

Sweet, so this may stress other people out but I got a month before my next contract starts so I get to do some freelance this month.

I’m keen on the idea as if I get the right jobs I can also then take some time off. Also I can maybe do some fun jobs this month to see what the rest of the world is doing during the day.

Anyway, if you need a web made from psd to html/php give me a shout.

damn it, forgot what I was going to say…

February 20th, 2009 by Alex No comments »

I’m not a big fan on writing and I do try but every time I open this editor up I forget why I opened the damn thing up.

OK thinking hurts my brain today, I’m stressing as my current contract is up end of this month and still not got something for next month. Trying not to stress though as that make stupid come out to play.

Think a thought came to my head, I’ve got this great idea for a ad app but its still in thought process as I have no time to read the needed documents and write the needed documents to get started but so far the idea is unique and simple. Think that’s what I wanted to say but not 100%. What I need to find out is how one would get someone to invest in a persons idea with little or no documentation or what type of documentation is required to get someone to invest in it.

These are simple questions but if all fails there is no hell so I’m not worried.

Since been back on the job market I have found it strange how many places still used windows in a linux development company. They all say they need to test there stuff in IE and they cant afford anything else but erm linux is free and you only need one machine to run IE so you can view your sites before going out. I mean my mentor from my junior days never touch windows and I only remember him once checking out a site in IE to see how it looked. I think if I continue with this I might make a few people angry with some thoughts of mine. People say you always need to test your sites in IE before sending them out but why test when you know they going to work.

Tis Friday so we should all be happy that we lasted another week and now we can rest this weekend so we can start surviving a new week. If that’s your thought process I think its time you got a new job.

Tis Friday so we can see our friends and get some rest cause next week is going to be fun…. is a better answer but that makes me think of the homeless people I past coming to work this morning.

“Vote and Win” is what all the DA posters are saying but what are we going to win? Are the homeless going to get homes? are the hungry getting food? or is another party taking over the role of main con-artist in this country? When will the leaders stop thinking with there emotions and start making some arrangement to better this country. Only a idiot cant tell what is needed so why are they our leaders? if you tell me that one of them gave a good speak about a topic, I’ll ask who wrote it.

Hmm maybe some good news…
Well I sent my CV off to Afrigator got a quick response from them but still waiting for a call. That’s cool, it seems like a really nice place to work at. Also went for a interview today with some really nice guys. Not sure what the work environment is like but they where cool.

Google gOS – Marriage over Twitter

January 9th, 2009 by Alex No comments »

So its been awhile since I posted anything. had a small break and spent all my time working around my house. not really a break but I didn’t get near a computer for the whole week, which is different for me.

Anyway, so there are two things that top my mind today. First I see Google has released a operating system with all there app attached to it. The screen-shot look really cool and the amount of memory needed to run the OS is only 256 MB which is nothing compared to the average machine today. I’m a little worried about the usefulness of there OS without a internet connection as something that uses so little ram would be great for this country but if a 24/7 connection is needed then it might be a waste of time. I will have to wait and see though. don’t have a copy yet and not sure if I will be able to get one too soon.

On a happy note, two unknown people to me go engaged over twitter…
Still not sure how I feel about this, the whole thing is a virtual event so far, they are not in the same city at the moment so everything is happening over the net.

twitter.com/film_girl
twitter.com/grobertson

Well what ever happens I hope the two of them have a great life together and don’t spend too much of it in a virtual space.
